Living Islam Event 2008
Sustainable Living Islam Camp 2008

Following the favourable response to four eco-workshops for Muslim scouts run by IFEES at the 2005 Living Islam camp, a wider programme of environmental awareness is being rolled out for this year’s camp at Lincoln Showground 17-20 July.

This event will publicise the fact that all its waste is to be recycled, as it was in 2005, by Green Mountains, a local waste management firm, with a verse from the Qur’an: ‘Do not be wasteful’.

Talks and seminars on the Islamic viewpoint on environmental issues will be given, including one by Fazlun Khalid, Chair of IFEES.

The National Energy Foundation’s Green Energy Machine is being invited to come to the camp to publicise renewable energy technology.

Topics for the Scout workshops are:

  • Recycling: making toys from plastic bottles
  • Windpower: learning about windmills, making wind toys and using a model wind turbine Geraldine M
  • Tree Nature walk in the conservation area at the Showground (Cathedral Wood
  • Fair Trade

Around 1000 Muslim scouts are expected to attend the camp (ages 7-12), most of them with their families.
